Buying a charger: common questions

Which charger do I need: 7.4 kW, 11 kW or 22 kW?

It depends on your electrical supply and your car. Homes with single-phase supply suit the 7.4 kW PlugEV Home. Businesses with three-phase supply can install 11 or 22 kW chargers. Many EVs charge at a maximum of 7–11 kW on AC, so 22 kW mostly helps compatible vehicles and future-proofs your site.

How long does installation take?

A standard home installation usually takes half a day. Commercial projects typically take 1–5 days on site, depending on the number of chargers, cable runs and any civil works like trenching or pedestal foundations.

Do I need to upgrade my electricity supply?

Often not. Our Pro and Duo chargers support dynamic load balancing, which shares available capacity across chargers so you can install more points on your existing supply. Our free site survey confirms what's possible.

What is OCPP and why does it matter?

OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is the open industry standard for connecting chargers to management software. OCPP chargers are not locked to one provider, so you can change software or network operator in the future without replacing hardware.

Can I charge other people for using my charger?

Yes. Connect a Pro or Duo to the PlugEV network and drivers can pay you per kWh through the app, QR code or RFID. You set the price, and we handle payments, support and payouts.

What warranty do you offer?

All PlugEV chargers come with a 3-year manufacturer warranty. Pro and Duo chargers can be extended to 5 years with a maintenance plan that includes remote monitoring and priority on-site repair.
