Frequently asked questions
What is AC destination charging?
AC destination charging means charging your EV at places where you park for a while, like supermarkets, hotels, offices and car parks. Instead of waiting at a fast charger, your car charges at 7.4–22 kW while you shop, work, eat or sleep.
Will a PlugEV charger work with my car?
Yes. PlugEV chargers use the Type 2 (IEC 62196-2) connector, the standard AC connector for almost all modern EVs and plug-in hybrids. Cars with a Type 1 inlet can use a Type 2-to-Type 1 cable.
How fast will my car charge?
Charging speed is limited by whichever is lower: the charger's output or your car's on-board charger. Most EVs accept 7–11 kW on AC, which adds roughly 40–70 km of range per hour. Some models accept up to 22 kW.
How do I pay for charging?
Pay in the PlugEV app with a saved card or wallet, scan the QR code on the charger to pay without an account, or tap a PlugEV RFID card linked to your account. The price per kWh is always shown before you start.
I own a business. Does hosting a charger cost anything?
It doesn't have to. With our Host & Earn model, PlugEV funds the chargers, installation and operations, and you receive a share of the charging revenue. You can also buy the chargers yourself and keep more of the revenue. Compare partnership models.
